Meade 07171-02 9.7mm Super Plossl Series 4000

Designed and manufactured to exacting standards, Meade Series 4000 Super Plössl eyepieces deliver wide 52° apparent fields of view (44° for the SP40mm) with all of the resolution, edge-of- field sharpness and color correction demanded in the most advanced visual applications. All eyepieces are multi-coated and include soft rubber eyeguards.

The Meade Series 4000 Super Plössls are an improvment over the 3000 series Plössls. The 9.7mm is used for high power observing on most telescopes. This eyepiece offers a magnification of 129x on an ETX90 or 206x on a 2000mm focal length telescope like the LX90. At high magnifications one requires a steady atmosphere, or else the image appears blurry due to bad “seeing”. But with steady skies, this eyepiece produces stunning views of the planets.

For photographing the moon, planets, or terrestrial objects, connect your 35mm SLR camera to a telescope using the Meade 64ST T-Adapter. This connection rigidly couples your camera to the telescope’s optical system, which in effect becomes the camera’s lens.

There are enough reviews here to let people know you need this AND some sort of adapter for your camera to make this work.

The adapter itself is pretty well made. It is a simple metal ring. It has the correct threading on the inside of the ring and the outside. This is not some cheap plastic thing that will snap between your fingers. The price tag seems a bit high for a little metal ring. But it is a very specialized piece of equipment, your almost certainly not going to be using this for anything else.

*Well constructed, not flimsy feeling
*Made out of metal, not cheap plastic
*Does what is made to do

Cons:
*Expensive for such a small item

Meade Plössl 07067 9mm Illuminated 1.25-Inch Reticle Eyepiece with Cord

The Series 4000 Plssl 9mm Illuminated Reticle Eyepiece is the most advanced illuminated reticle eyepiece commercially available. Locking onto the guide star is a snap with its micrometric x-y positioning controls. Then all it takes is a turn of the finely-threaded controls to place the reticle’s crossline pattern at precisely the desired position. The internal red-illumination assures that the lines are clearly visible against a dark night sky.The sharp, high-power imaging of the four-element, multi-coated Plssl optical system is complemented by a rubber eyecup (foldable for eyeglass wearers) that eliminates distracting stray light from your eye. The upper section of the eyepiece rotates, allowing for precise diopter adjustment. Reticle pattern is a double crossline with two concentric circles. Both wireless and corded models are 1.25″ O.D.Wireless Model: The Wireless Illuminated Reticle Eyepiece includes a red LED illuminator (operated from internal batteries) with variable brightness control. Batteries are included with each eyepiece.Corded Model: Same as above, but with a six-foot cord and connector for direct plug-in to the control panels of Meade LX200 and ED/APO telescopes. Separation of the power source from the eyepiece allows you to make adjustments to reticle brightness during an exposure without risk of vibrating the telescope. Red LED brightness control is activated from the telescope’s hand controller or control panel.

This is necessary to: mount orientation (equatorial), astrophotography and observation of double stars. It works very well with the Meade LX 200 which has a network port.
